Samburu National Reserve Safari is wealthy in game, with numerous rare species comprising Grevy’s Zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx (also referred to as the samburu special five), elephants(a minimum of 900), lion, (kamunyak the miracle lioness that adopted the baby oryx is a resident in the reserve), leopard, cheetah, wild dogs and over 450 species of birds recorded. Birds of the arid northern bush country are augmented by a number of riverine forest species.

The lesser kestrel and the Taita falcon are species of global conservation concern both found in this reserve. Five species categorised as exposed have also been chronicled here. These are the African darter, great egret, white headed vulture, martial eagle and the yellow billed oxpecker. The critically endangered pancake tortoise (malacochersus tornieri) is also found in Samburu Game Reserve.

Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in east Africa, and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a Sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the poachers. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock

  1. Day 1:  Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve

    Samburu National Reserve is a Kenyan less visited Game Reserve and is situated within the Rift Valley. It is relatively small in size but with several endangered species. Pick up at 0630am after early breakfast from your hotel or guest house, drive to the rich agricultural area of Mount Kenya region via the famous Pineapple leading company Delmonte. Transverse to Isiolo town via Achers Post to arrive at around 1400 hours in time for lunch. After lunch in the Camp, proceed for the game drive which will bring you to the elephant bedroom tower. The game drive will run for about 3 hours and there after you will return to the camp or Lodge for dinner and overnight.

  2. Day 2:  Samburu Safari Full Day

    The whole day will be spent exploring this amazing game reserve, it gives you the refreshment of your mind as the park is not populated and not many people visits here, Its home to the big five, Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gravy Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Endangered Wild Dog as well as Pun cake Tortoise – Endangered. There are over 450 species of birds identified and aquatic species in the Waso Nyiro River including, vultures, kingfishers, marabustos, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and others. The whole day will be spent exploring the park for the whole day game drive. Dinner and overnight in The Camp.

  3. Day 3: Samburu Safari Back Nairobi

    On this last day you will have a wakeup call at 0600am, then proceed for the early morning game drive, this gives you a chance to spot the early morning Kills from the big five, after the game drive return to the camp for the main breakfast. Visit the local Samburu villages where you get a chance to interact with the colorful Samburu people in their traditional setting and experience their culture. This is a good opportunity to purchase traditional Samburu souvenirs, art and collectibles. There after leave and head back to Nairobi with a stopover in Nanyuki for lunch. Arrive Nairobi late afternoon with a drop off to the hotel or to the airport.
